Castellan Computer Networking

Information Technology News

2006 has been a banner year for Castellan! It brought us tremendous growth in our customer base, largely due to our commitment to top notch service and maintaining our existing customer base with no attrition.

On the horizon: 2007 will bring a host of new technology from Microsoft, and we are already testing Windows Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007. We will be ahead of the curve as the New Year begins so that we can appropriately advise our clients and deploy new tools as they become available to the public.

Our focus for 2007 will be Unified Messaging, because it offers the enticing prospect of simplifying communication methods while saving time. It’s the convergence of the different forms of messaging, and brings e-mail, voice mail and faxes into one inbox. With Exchange 2007, you will have the ability to have your e-mail read to you from a phone, retrieving your voice mail from your e-mail inbox, or retrieving from a remote device. It unifies the entire process into one mailbox so you can check your e-mail, voice mail or faxes at the same time.

When the technology is released at the end of January 2007, we will be ready to offer inexpensive telephone systems that will allow SMBs to hit the best price/stability/features point on the chart. Combining the inexpensive power of a standard PC, an interactive virtual attendant, and low-cost IP phones, Castellan is prepared to offer true Unified Messaging at a SMB price point to businesses with as few as 50-100 users. Features and benefits include:

Best combination of price, stability, and features

VoiP runs on inexpensive PC computer systems ($1900 to start!); phones start as low as $100 each

The software is open source, no cost software – anyone can get the documentation from the internet for operations & troubleshooting

Wide array of phone vendors, features, and prices for every budget

Integration with Unified Messaging in MS Exchange (and the next version of small business server – the value leader from Microsoft) – voice mail & faxes in your inbox (and via the internet), read your email to you via the VoiP phone system

Use existing POTS telephone lines or PRI from your regular telephone vendor – regular phone system lines are STILL the most stable technology for voice communications

Can take advantage of managed switches for higher quality voice communications

No leasing – you are purchasing equipment and a configuration service from Castellan – you own it!
